Lost In Eternity

Drowning in nostalgia since 1982.

The artist’s job is not to succumb to despair but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence.

—Woody Allen

Memories, even your most precious ones, fade surprisingly quickly. But I don’t go along with that. The memories I value most, I don’t ever see them fading.

—Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go

Photographing Husband and Wife Band, Tennis
One May afternoon Japanese photographer Takeshi Suga went for a garden stroll with husband-and-wife duo Tennis. The images capture the musicians’ unique intimacy as they talk to each other completely at ease in front of the camera, almost inviting us to join the conversation.

What did you, Alaina and Patrick talk about during the shoot?

The idea was to photograph Alaina and Patrick as they walk and converse with each other like Celine and Jesse in [Richard Linklater’s] Before Sunset. We started talking about [his preceding film], Before Midnight, and it led us to think about how our lives get more difficult and complicated as we grow older. They also told me about the new album they’ve finished recording and how proud they are about it.

What was the idea behind the shoot?

I think we tend to have interesting conversations while walking. I hadn’t seen Alaina and Patrick for three years and it was stimulating to bring a camera to our reunion…

Read the rest of the interview (and hear Tennis’ songs) over on our blog!
